On the day that Samurai Shodown launched, SNK confirmed that four fighters would be coming to the game through a Season Pass: Rimururu, Basara, Kazuki Kazama, and Wan-Fu. That being said, the classic fighting game developer also surprised players at EVO when they revealed that a free DLC character, Shizumaru Hisame, would be releasing in September. Today, SNK confirmed that Shizumaru Hisame will be available in Samurai Shodown starting next week.
Shizumaru Hisame will be available in North America and Europe on September 16 and in Japan on September 17. For those of you who aren’t aware, Shizumaru Hisame first appeared in Samurai Shodown III and he served as one of that game’s protagonists. He has appeared in most Samurai Shodown games since then, but failed to make the cut for the latest launch roster. That being said, it is awesome to see this character added for free in a time where most fighting games only deliver new characters via DLC.
He seems to be a small and fast fighter that uses both his sword and umbrella to hit opponents with a flurry of attacks. It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the overall Samurai Shodown meta as he has the potential to be more common because he is free. If you want to see him in action, you can check out his gameplay trailer below:
When it comes to paid DLC, players can still expect Basara in October, Kazuki Kazama in November, and Wan-Fu in December. Samurai Shodown is available now on PS4 and Xbox One and can be picked up on Amazon. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be releasing in Japan this December, but a North American release date has not been confirmed yet.
